Bird Conservation Grants — Birds on the Brink

BIRDS ON THE BRINK awards grants to projects that support bird conservation. Favoured projects include under-funded existing projects and promising start-ups.

Awards are typically between £250 and £1,000 and are given primarily to small groups or individuals carrying out grassroots conservation work. Applications for grants of £250 or less are considered at the time of submission. Grant applications exceeding £250 are considered quarterly, their merits measured alongside other pending applications; deadlines for application consideration are 1 January, 1 April, 1 July, and 1 October.

Grant applications for projects outside the UK must be supported by written endorsement from the relevant recognised BirdLife International partner in the given region or country.

In addition, applications for funding or joint-funding are considered from larger organisations where vital and immediate backing is required.

Applications for funding are reviewed by the Trustees, the Advisory Panel and BOTB Ambassadors.

PROJECT TITLE: Please supply a title that best summarises the project.

SPECIES INFORMATION: Please provide information about the species (singular or plural) targeted by your project, and its/their status and significance regionally, nationally and internationally.

PROJECT START AND END DATES: Please provide the provisional start and end dates for the project.

PROJECT DESCRIPTON: Please describe and include details for ALL of the following sections (max 1000 words): (1) background information, (2) specific aims, (3) details of methodology, (4) animal welfare considerations.

PROJECT PARTNERS: Will the project be delivered solely by the applicant, or will you be working in partnership with other individuals or organisations? If so, please provide details.

COLLATERAL CONSERVATION BENEFITS: In addition to benefiting the species targeted by this application, are there any potential foreseen additional conservation benefits? These might include community engagement or habitat protection.

MEASURING PROJECT SUCCESS: What specific, measurable results or outcomes will the project deliver? Examples might include the installation of 50 nest boxes, the collection of a dataset on outcomes of 20 nests, foraging tracks of 10 birds, planting of 100 tree saplings etc.

REPORTING RESULTS: Birds on the Brink would expect to receive regular updates on the progress of the project and a final report detailing its effectiveness and outcome. Please describe how you would convey and present your findings.

RISK ASSESSMENT: Please assess the risks associated with the project and how you might overcome them. Are there any inherent dangers associated with the project? Is there anything that might prevent you from achieving the aims of the project, for example, a dependency on key individuals, suppliers or equipment that may not be available? What measures would you put in place to overcome these risks?

SOCIAL MEDIA AND PUBLICITY: If awarded a grant, please describe how you would work with and enable Birds on the Brink to publicise and promote the project in the areas of conventional and social media. Examples might include a willingness or ability to write short blog articles and provide images for illustration.

PROJECT BUDGET: Please provide a summary of total project costs, the amount sought from Birds on the Brink, the amount and source of any co-funding sought elsewhere, and whether or not any co-funding has been secured already.

PROJECT ENDORSEMENT (for non-UK applications only): Please supply authorised written endorsement from the BirdLife International partner in the relevant country or region, along with names and contact details (postal and email addresses). For UK-based applications type 'Not Applicable'.
